 Historical background

Since the last territorial-Administrative Reform our village became a part of Drochia district, earlier being a part of Riscani district. The first historical backgrounds about Pelinia go back to the 17th century. The Republican archive documents remind of the village existence in 1758. The first people to come in our village were from Moldova, across the Prut River . They were from Arionesti village. These people settled on the bank of the Raut river, near the village of Singureni , that is  older. As they often got into troubles with the inhabitants from that village they decided to change their settlement and moved further to the North taking with them the few things they’ve got. They yoked the building of the church, that was made of wood, to a cart pulled by 20 pairs of oxen and settled it down on the place where the recent one is situated, they settling a bit further, on the valley. It is said that their first name was Pripa.

Later, at the end of  the 18th century some people from Poltava settled here. The natives met them with enthusiasm. What was specific about those people, were the peasants’ sandals (opince) they used to wear. This word appeared from the Russian word „postoli. They say that the first name “Postolache” has its origin from this word. This is one of the most frequently met first names in our village. As to what the origin of the name of our village contains two legends are worth being mentioned here.

The first legend says that the name of our village comes up from a steppe full of wormwood (pelin- a flower that grew on the steppe) that spread all over those places.

The second one reminds us that the estates of the village belonged to one of the Greek’s landlord whose name was Pelin. (He was a member of  the “Neamt monastery at that time )

The main occupation: Since the past times till nowadays the main villagers’ occupation is agriculture. In a short period of time our village changed into an infrastructural developed place.

The Public Administrative Authorities are: The Council – the Deliberative Body The Mayoralty and the Mayor – the Executive
